Section titled “How creators and communities can use social tokens for engagement and value exchange.”

Social tokens are community-specific tokens that represent membership, access, or reputation within a community. Unlike utility tokens, their primary value comes from the social context they exist in.

Tokens issued by individual creators to their audience. Holders get access to exclusive content, events, or governance over the creator’s direction.

Tokens representing membership in a community. Can be earned through contribution or purchased. Used for governance, access, and identity.

Non-transferable tokens that represent contribution history. Think of them as a resume on-chain.

  • Event access: Token-gated events for active members
  • Governance weight: More contribution = more voice
  • Incentive alignment: Reward contributors with tokens
  • Community identity: Visual proof of membership (NFTs, badges)
  1. Don’t financialize community relationships unnecessarily
  2. Tokens should reflect value, not create it artificially
  3. Avoid speculation, design for utility, not trading
  4. Regulatory considerations (securities law)

Consider social tokens when you need a way to track and reward contribution. Don’t use them just because you can.
